Flu is Still a Threat: Protect Yourself This Winter with a Flu Vaccination
The latest data from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) reveals that flu was responsible for at least 18,000 deaths over the past two winters, even though last winter was considered relatively mild. This is a reminder that flu remains a deadly virus, particularly for older adults and vulnerable groups.
Worryingly, there was a decline in flu vaccine uptake across all eligible groups in England last winter, so as we head into another winter, the UKHSA is urging those at risk to get their flu and COVID-19 vaccinations as part of the Get Winter Strong campaign.
Pregnant women are also encouraged to receive the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and whooping cough vaccines for the first time this year to protect themselves and their newborns.
Getting vaccinated not only protects you and your loved ones but also helps ease the strain on the NHS during the busy winter months. Don’t wait—get your flu shot when invited and stay protected this winter!
